Our CEO @jorgeavilam at El Norte
Yesterday our beloved CEO appeared on El Norte (Reforma Group) one of the most important newspapers in Mexico. The article was called “Twitter helps avoid vehicular traffic” (Ayuda Twitter a lidiar con el tráfico).
It talks about the SINTRAM.ORG website that Jorge created, a mashup that aims to collect traffic information from tweets (the short messages flowing through twitter), all you have to do to appear there is to use the #SINTRAM tag on your tweets.
Jorge started this initiative after hurricane Alex visited and destroyed his hometown, Monterrey, Mexico. Very important avenues were destroiyed creating a traffic caos on the following days. Of course this is not the only city affected by the hurricane, the states of Tamaulipas, Coahuila and Nuevo Leon were really damaged in general. You can see some photos here.
This is a clear example that common people and social technology can create a change.
Way to go Boss!
P.D.1. You can donate to help people of Nuevo Leon on the sintram site.
